Hintergrund:
Im Jahr 2015 wurde die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem HKW-Projekt „Wohnungsfrage“, den Architekt*innen Assemble Sugarhouse Studios, dem Gemeinschaftszentrum The Mill aus London mit der Begegnungsstätte Stille Straße 10 begründet. Das HKW machte es möglich, dass eine Delegation der Stille Straße 10 nach London reisen konnte, um vor Ort die Kooperationspartner*innen kennenzulernen und sich mit ihnen auszutauschen. Im Mittelpunkt des Projektes steht die Architektur als soziokulturelle Praxis, die im Austausch zwischen Nutzer*innen und Planer*innen entsteht. Berliner Initiativen, die sich mit den Folgen von Verdrängung, Mietpreiserhöhungen und dem Verlust öffentlicher Räume engagieren, wurden zu Auftraggebern für das renommierte internationale Architekturbüro und entwickelten in einem dialogischen Prozess konkrete Entwürfe und Modelle, darunter das „Wachsende Haus für alle Generationen“.
„Wie ähnlich sind doch die Städte London und Berlin? Wie ähnlich sind ihre Probleme und wie ähnlich sind die Menschen, die ihre Städte lieben und sich dafür einsetzen, dass sie lebenswert bleiben und werden.“
Am 2. Juli 2022 trafen sich alle wieder, um sich erneut über die aktuellen Herausforderungen der Wohnungsfrage in London und Berlin auszutauschen.

Background:
In 2015, the collaboration between the HKW project „Wohnungsfrage“, the architects from Assemble Sugarhouse Studios, the community center The Mill from London with the community center Stille Straße 10 was established. The HKW made it possible for a delegation from Stille Straße 10 to travel to London in order to get to know the cooperation partners on site and to exchange ideas with them. The project focuses on architecture as a socio-cultural practice that emerges in an exchange between users and planners. Berlin-based initiatives concerned with the consequences of displacement, rent increases and the loss of public spaces became clients for the renowned international architectural office and developed concrete designs and models in a dialogical process, including the „Growing house for all generations“.
„How similar are the cities of London and Berlin, after all? How similar are their problems and how similar are the people who love their cities and work to keep and make them livable.“
Everyone met again on July 2, 2022, to share again about the current challenges of housing in London and Berlin.
